Lawyers in Beni Suef staged a strike on Saturday upon a call from their Bar Association in Cairo in protest against "police breaches".

"The association will combat these irresponsible practices by some policemen against lawyers," said Beni Suef's sub-association head.

The protest followed the reported assault by a senior police officer on a lawyer in Damietta.

The association cites also previous police violations.
