New Interior Minister Magdy Mohamed Abdel Hamid Abdel Ghafar, who took the oath earlier Thursday, was born in 1952.
He was born in Cairo and graduated from the Police Academy in 1974.
He held several posts within the police institution, including the command of the National Security department.
The new minister had also served as a director of the Ports' Security Authority.
