Residents of Delengat, 160 km north of Cairo, were in panic Thursday morning when dubious object, believed to be a bomb, was found outside a mosque in the city.
Sappers and bomb detection dogs were immediately dispatched to the scene which was cordoned off.
They found a black plastic bag with two batteries, a fridge thermostat and wires inside.
It did not contain any explosive materials.
The prosecution was notified and an investigation was launched
