The Cabinet's operations room on Monday denied media reports that Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo was stormed and clashes occurred between protesters and security sources.

"These reports are false and baseless," the room said in a statement.

"A state of calm prevailed in all squares across Egypt except for small rallies that lasted for only 30 minutes," it added.
