Cairo Governor Galal Mostafa Saeed inspected the site of a powerful explosion that occurred outside the Italian consulate in downtown Cairo on Saturday.

The governor ordered the formation of a panel to examine the buildings located behind the consulate in Bulaq Abul Ela district to ensure their safety.

Cairo Security Director Osama Bedeir also headed to the blast scene and ordered removing the debris left in Al Galaa Street to reopen it for traffic.

The explosion had left one person killed and at least four injured according to a Health Ministry statement.
