Chairman of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) Abu Bakr el Gendi has warned of an accelerated growth in population compared to scarce resources.

The normal population growth is "catastrophic", Gendi said in a lecture on Tuesday.

Unemployment rates in Egypt have reached 12.8 percent, Gendi said, citing a final-quarter report of 2015.

It is important that economic growth be three times as much as the population growth, he noted.
