China and Saudi Arabia have expressed support for Yemen's unity, on the occasion of a visit to Saudi Arabia by Chinese President Xi Jinping, said the Chinese Foreign Ministry in a statement on Wednesday.

The statement affirmed support for the unity of Yemen, its legitimate government, independence and sovereignty.

A Saudi-led coalition began a military campaign last year against the Houthi militias in Yemen, that seized the capital, Sanaa. The government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi is now based in the southern city of Aden.
