Clashes erupted between government forces and Daesh militants in the eastern city of Deir al-Zor, BBC quoted the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights as saying Tuesday.

Artillery shells were exchanged by the two sides, the London-based monitoring body said.

Many were killed and wounded in the clashes.
