Sanitary Engineering Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities & Urban Planning Khalifa Al Mansoor said the Ministry has completed the designs and tendering documents for the implementation of a complete sewerage system in the Norther Town.
Contractors were qualified and bids were invited in a limited tender, he said, adding that technical offers are presently being evaluated and the tender is expected to be awarded in the second quarter of 2015.
Al Mansoor explained that work comprises of two projects, the first of which is implementing a sewage treatment plant with the capacity of 40000m3/day, expandable to 60000m3/day, a tri-treatment unit to produce treated water for irrigation purposes, sludge management to fulfill technical requirements, and an emergency system flowing to the sea at a length of 4.5km and the diameter of 1100mm, in addition to all civil, electrical and mechanical works. Work also includes implementing a tank for the collection of treated sewage waters and the main pumping station.
The second project comprises of implementing main sewerage lines at a length of 1.7km with the diameters 400-700mm, implementing main transfer lines using the micro-tunneling methodology at a length of 5.7km and the diameters 500-1200mm, in addition to main transfer lines at a length of 8.2km.
