Coptic Orthodox Church

The Coptic Orthodox Church has denied reports on conducting virginity tests on brides as a precondition for marriage.

The Coptic Orthodox Church, which respects and protects the dignity of its sons and daughters, affirms that no embarrassing medical tests are to be conducted on brides as a premarital condition, a statement released Wednesday night said.

Recent claims in the media to this effect are void and bare of truth, it said.

The Church has not designated anyone to speak in its name or act as its counselor, it added.
