Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria stressed that the unified personal status law regulating divorce and second marriage for Egyptian Copts is almost finished and is to see daylight soon.
Now, Copts in Egypt can get divorce from the Church only in case of adultery or faith conversion by either spouse.
The pontiff gave the remarks during a sermon at the Cathedral headquarters in Alexandria on Wednesday.
Pope Tawadros greeted Egyptians on Mouled el Nabawi (Prophet Muhammad's birthday).
The new law has to be first approved by the Holy Synod before it is sent to parliament for endorsement.
