The Wali (governor) of Khartoum State, Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Khidir, has revealed death of 17 persons and collapse of 3077 houses in the state because of the recent floods and heavy rains.
In a press statement after the extraordinary sitting of the Council of Ministers Tuesday, Dr. Al-Khidir said that any affected in the state was given tent, a number of covers and blankets and bags of food materials.
He said that work teams of the Civil Defence Forces, the Sudanese Red Crescent, the emergency office and the People's Committees Directorate have counted the affected persons and houses.
The Wali has affirmed his government commitment to provide the affected people with basic materials, adding that the state authorities are now engaged in pumping out rain water from squares and yards.
He referred to the endeavors of Khartoum State government to complete its plan for establishing cement drainage system.
He indicated that the state government has established a number of dams over the floods canals in different areas in Khartoum State.
Dr. Al-Khidir said that Khartoum State government needs seven years to establish an integrated sewage system all over the state.
