The death toll from clashes erupted between Mujahideen Shura Council militiamen and Daesh militants in the Libyan city of Darnah rose to 11 people, a local source of the city said on Friday.

An official with the Derna Mujahideen Shura Council said they launched an operation to recapture Daesh-held areas in the city.

Libya has been witnessing security vacuum and a state of chaos since the overthrow and death of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
