Ethiopia's dam

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said the Declaration of Principles on the Renaissance Dam signed by the Egyptian, Sudanese and Ethiopian heads of state here in March established strategic relations based on strong ties that link the three nations.

Addressing the inauguration of the second round of a six-way meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs and irrigation in Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, Shoukry said Sudan plays an important and vital role that reflected positively on the agreements reached so far, mainly the Declaration of Principles.

Egyptian-Sudanese relations are of special nature, he said, referring to brotherhood and unity of fate. Egypt seeks to activate relations with Ethiopia as being a sisterly state, he said.

What links Egypt and Ethiopia is not just the River Nile, which is a lifeline to all the Egyptians, but they also share a long history of joint humanitarian heritage that we all cherish, he said.

"We are building up through the six-way meeting which opened here today under the kind auspices of Sudan, on previous steps and are maintaining the terms of agreement of the Declaration of Principles," he added.
