The director of the Bank of Commerce and Development (BCD)'s branch in Derna was injured in a shooting by gunmen while attempting to abduct him.
A security source in Derna said the gunmen attempted to kidnap Abu Gherara, but when he resisted they shot him and fled the scene.
He was moved to Hareesh Hospital in Derna to receive treatment.
Several killing and abduction operations have recurrently taken place in Derna, but no one claimed responsibility for any operation.
