Egypt and Greece are playing an important role in the stability of the region as Egypt is the last bastions of stability in the region, while Greece is Europe's doorway, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said.

According to a press release distributed by the Greek embassy here, Tspiras said the Greek authorities and resident of Aegean Sea islands have dealt with the refugee crisis successfully.

Rescuing refugees is a humanitarian duty and commitment, he said.

According to official statistics, a total of 758,596 refugees have arrived to Greek islands since the start of the year until December 9, in addition to 3,500 crossing the land borders between Greece and Turkey.

Seventy percent of the refugees, who entered Greece, are from Syria, 19% from Afghanistan and 5% from Iraq, the press release added.

Greek coastal guards rescued 94,024 refugees and migrants since the start of the year, while 206 died drowning in the sea, it added.
