Egypt’s Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab said Saturday Egypt has a long-lasting position towards the Palestinian issue and continues efforts for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
"We opened the Rafah crossing to receive humanitarian cases and the injured from the strip," Mahlab said.
Mahlab made the remarks during his meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel García-Margallo, who is currently visiting Egypt.
During the meeting, the premier said preparations are underway to complete the future roadmap by electing a new parliament in Egypt.
The political, economic and security conditions in Egypt are stable, and they are improving, despite the challenges facing the country, he said.
The government is currently implementing a comprehensive plan for economic and legislative reform in order to overcome the difficulties facing investors and create a suitable climate to attract investments, he added.
For his part, the Spanish foreign minister stressed the deeply-rooted and historical relations between the two countries.
He asserted his country's keenness to boost relations with Egypt in various fields.
He pointed out that his country is aware of the reality of what happened in Egypt over the past period, and understands Egypt's suffering from terrorism, which Spain had suffered from in the past.
The meeting also dealt with the situation in the Gaza Strip, Libya and Syria.
The top Spanish diplomat praised the Egyptian initiative for a cease-fire in Gaza, stressing his country's support for the plan.
