The House of Representatives is based on the principle of the rule of law and respect of freedoms, affirmed Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal. 

During his meeting Wednesday with vice President of the German parliament Claudia Roth along with her accompanying delegation, Abdel Aal said that Egypt is keen on promoting cooperation with the German parliament in the various fields, through the joint parliamentary friendship association, which is currently being established. 

Egypt have more than 47,000 NGOs, which are operating freely, he said. 

"We are trying to strike a balance between freedoms and rights and until now no person has been referred to any exceptional courts," he added. 

Roth, for her part, affirmed that the parliament represents democracy, underling the importance of cooperation between Egypt and Germany in fields of energy, renewable energy, environment, education and human rights.
