Egypt and Sudan signed on Sunday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a permanent joint consular committee.

The MoU was inked by Egyptian Deputy Foreign Minister for African Relations Hamdy Louza and Undersecretary of the Sudanese Foreign Ministry Ambassador Abdel Ghani Naim. 

In a statement, Louza described the formation of the joint committee as a historic event, adding it will be tasked with discussing all topics related to the interests of the two countries' peoples.

This is a great evidence of deep relations between the two states, he added.

The aim of the agreement is to create a framework to boost bilateral cooperation, communication and dialogue and exchange experiences between the two countries for the sake of their peoples' interests, the Egyptian official said.

The committee's formation comes in line with the distinguished political relations between Egypt and Sudan and upon their leadership stances on stepping up bilateral rapprochement at all levels, Louza asserted.

For his part, Naim said the permanent consular committee will focus on developing methods and means that could enable the two countries' nationals to finalize their residence measures swiftly and perform their duties and functions at fullest. 

This will reflect in strengthening the well-established and historical relations between Egypt and Sudan, he underlined.
