Egypt supports Skhirat political deal on Libya to be signed later Thursday in Morocco, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Thursday.
In a press conference, Abu Zeid hailed the agreement, saying it is the first step towards combating terrorism in Libya and forming a national unity government.
Such a step will pave the way for supporting the new government that has a lot of responsibilities and many challenges to face and is required at the same time to show to the Libyans that it is up to these responsibilities, he added.
The deal will also help put an end to the flow of arms to Libya and lift ban on Libya in this regard, he further said.
The terrorist attacks targeting the region and the whole world in the past few weeks made the major powers believe that all countries, including Egypt, have to follow up and hold talks concerning the issue in order to confront terrorism, he said.
About a military intervention, he said there is no current conception on a military intervention, adding that such an issue has to regionally and internationally studied.
"But I cannot imagine we can move on to a new step without the deal being signed first among Libyan rivals," he added.
