Ramaallah - Arab Today
Assuming its non-permanent membership at the UN Security Council in the beginning of 2016, Egypt will make a point of highlighting calls by the Palestinian Central Council (PCC) to reconsider political, economic and security relations with Israel.
The calls are meant to pressure Israel to honor signed agreements and international legitimacy resolutions, said secretary of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Saeb Erekat at a press conference in Ramallah on Friday.
Egypt, in its capacity as head of the Arab summit and member of the UNSC, will be the representative of the Palestinian cause and will act to put an end to Israel's atrocities, Erekat said in reply to a question by MENA correspondent here.
He stressed that Egypt has always supported the Palestinian cause at all levels and will always do.
Asked if the Palestinian Authority will contribute to a recently announced Islamic military coalition against terrorism, Erekat told MENA correspondent that Palestine is part of the Arab project and will be a party to any Arab strategy to fight terrorism.
He made it clear that the Palestinian territories suffer from the terrorism of Israeli forces.
According to Erekat, there is no difference between the terrorism of Daesh and that of the Israeli occupation.
Daesh is killing innocent people in Syria and Iraq and the Israeli army and settlers are murdering Palestinians in cold blood, the PLO official said. He cited the burning alive of Palestinian al Dawabsheh family by a group of Israeli settlers.
Erekat warned Israel of continuing its atrocities against the Palestinian people, stressing this will add more fuel to the fire.
