Cairo - Arab Today
Egypt's permanent representative to the United Nations Amr Abul Atta called Wednesday on the UN Security Council to protect the Palestinian people and put an end to the Israeli occupation.
Addressing the UNSC, Abul Atta said it is not acceptable to keep the Palestinian issue on the council's meeting agenda for about 70 years since its first meeting in 1946.
The UN shall guard the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, the diplomat said.
Atta accused some parties over attempts to hinder efforts exerted to improve the situation on the Palestinian territories.
Israel has accelerated construction of settler houses on the occupied Palestinian lands and committed unprecedented violations against holy places, he said.
The two-state solution is the only way according to the Arab initiative for peace, he added.
