Egypt on Monday welcomed an agreement reached by Somali rivals to hold the parliamentary elections in August.

In a press statement, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid stressed Egypt's support to Somalia as a main partner in the region.

"Egypt will keep up with backing all Somali efforts to build the state institutions," Abu Zeid added.
