Egypt's Foreign Ministry on Saturday said Egypt welcomes an agreement between the South Sudanese government and rebels to form a transitional government.

In a statement, spokesman for the ministry Ahmed Abu Zaid said the agreement is a step to achieve stability and development in the sister state of South Sudan.

Egypt supports South Sudan's transitional government to achieve the aspirations of the brotherly people of South Sudan, the statement added.
