Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St Mark's Diocese on Tuesday led a Mass in commemoration of the 21 Egyptian Copts who were killed in Libya earlier in the week by Daesh terrorist group.
In his sermon, the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for his supportive stance during the crisis, adding that the president himself visited the church to extend his condolences. The pope further thanked Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and Cabinet minister who expressed their condolences over the martyrs.
The pope further thanked all Egyptians who have expressed heartfelt condolences over the slain Egyptian Copts.
Pope Tawadros highlighted the swift response of the Egyptian Armed Forces to this obnoxious crime, noting that this attests to the fact that the Army and police are actually the protective shield of the homeland.
He further lauded the good feeling that were expressed by the Grand Imam of Al Azhar and other Arab and Libyan officials.
