The Egyptian Council of Churches stressed on Sunday that it will not give any directions to churchgoers as regards the coming parliamentary polls.
"Our first and last goal is to achieve rapprochement among Egyptian churches and to pray for the homeland," the council said during a meeting at the headquarters of the Evangelical Church in Heliopolis.
The first round of Egypt's long-delayed parliamentary elections will be held between 17 and 28 October in 14 governorates.
Some 5,941 candidates are vying for the 596 seats of the parliament.
