New Suez Canal

The Egyptian community in New York will organize a celebration at the Time Square on Thursday's morning to celebrate the opening of the new Suez Canal.

NY-based Michael Morgan, the presenter of the American Pulse TV show, said the Egyptian expatriates aim to take part in the Egyptian people celebration of the national mega project that was achieved by the will of Egypt's people and political leadership.

The TV show produced a national song to praise the ceremony, Morgan said.

Egypt inaugurates the New Suez Canal on Thursday, which will massively increase the capacity of the existing canal and offer an important opportunity to boost the country’s struggling economy.

The 72-kilometer new project involves a 37-kilometer new waterway and deepening and expansion of the existing 145-year-old Suez Canal along a 35-kilometer stretch.
