Customs authorities of Borg el Arab airport in Alexandria foiled two attempts to smuggle foreign currencies, banned drugs and alcoholic drinks.

Customs authorities suspected an Irish passenger traveling to Ireland and found 30,000 dollars and 30,000 euros in his possession, a well-placed source at customs authority said in statements Sunday.

An Egyptian passenger was also detained for having large quantities of medications and alcoholic drinks, added the source.

Under Egyptian law, each passenger is allowed to have only 10,000 dollars or their equivalent in any other currency while traveling abroad.
