Cairo - MENA
Darul Iftaa, Egypt's only body in charge of issuing fatwas, stressed on Sunday that religious extremism has pure political motives that have nothing to do with religion.
Those extremists are power thirsty and are relying on twisted interpretations of Sharia texts to insinuate that their acts are implemented out of love for Islam, the religious body said in a statement.
It called for addressing all terrorist groups adopting the same radical ideology, criticizing the selective policies and double standards some countries adopt in dealing with extremist organizations.
It called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility and find successful solutions to fight terrorism and extremism.
