Egyptian Charge d'affairs in Damascus Mohammad Tharwat Selim said two Egyptian teenagers are flown home from Syria due to worsening conditions resulting from ongoing war there and are expected to arrive Cairo later in the day.

Ambassador Tharwat, in a statement released by the Foreign Ministry, said the mother of the two, who is a Syrian citizen, asked for help from the Egyptian Embassy to fly home her kids due to tough conditions in Syria and the deployment of several military checkpoints near their residence in Damascus.

The Egyptian Embassy has instantly prepared interim travel documents for the two nationals who were flown home on board a first flight to Cairo and are expected to arrive later in the day.

The Egyptian diplomat pointed out that the Foreign Ministry had intervened over the past two years to fly home Egyptians willing to flee from war in Syria, adding that the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Syria has been periodically following up the conditions of Egyptians living in Syria, especially in the hot areas of conflict.

In 2016, the Egyptian Embassy in Damascus has flown home four Egyptian groups including 56 citizens with their families along with other 10 nationals who were flown home for emergency reasons
