Egyptian parliament

The Egyptian Embassy in Khartoum opened at 9:00 a.m on Monday on the first day of runoff elections of the second stage of parliamentary elections.

All Egyptians were encouraged, through different communications and media tools, to take part in the runoff elections, Egyptian Ambassador Osama Shaltout said.

Sudanese police forces were deployed around the embassy headquarters to secure balloting process.

Some 426 candidates are competing over 213 seats out of 222 seats contested in the second stage.

Nine seats have already been secured in the first round.

All list-based seats were won by For the Love of Egypt.

A total of 37,141 Egyptian expatriates voted in the first round of the second phase that took place November 21-22.

Voting was highest in Saudi Arabia with a turnout of 30.4 percent, followed by 18.3 percent in Kuwait and 12.7 percent in the United Arab Emirates.
