Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar inspected security measures in downtown Cairo on Tuesday.
He inspected Tahrir and Opera Squares and nearby El Sayeda Zeinab police station.
He also met citizens who hailed the ministry's painstaking efforts to boost security across the nation.
Last week, Abdel Ghaffar was appointed as the interior minister in a mini cabinet reshuffle that included also seven ministers.
