Spokesman for the Interior Ministry Major General Hani Abdel Latif dismissed allegations by the international rights organizations that there are thousands of defendants held in the Egyptian jails over their violation of the protest law.
In statements to MENA, Abdel Latif said there are foreign bodies which are operating in Egypt under the cover of rights organizations and are used by the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood in carrying out their plots against Egypt.
He said as many as 2703 prisoners were held since June 30, 2013, over their violation of the protest law and blocking roads. Some 2402 prisoners have already been released, while only 301 are still detained pending trial in other cases.
He said Egypt is undergoing exceptional circumstances. However, the government did not adopt any exceptional measures in its war against terrorist.
Abdel Latif said the ministry will take all legal measures as regards the requests of some MB elements who submitted repentance acknowledgements to denounce the terrorist acts carried out by the banned group in Egypt.
