One police officer and four recruits were killed in an exchange of fire with gunmen on Tuesday in Alexandria, Egypt's Interior Ministry said in a statement Wednesday.
Four people in a car targeted a security checkpoint on the coastal road in Al-Dhabaa area and opened fire towards them, the statement added.
Security forces exchanged fire with the offenders which resulted in the killing the five soldiers and all the four offenders who are now being identified.
