The Egyptian Patriotic Movement party on Monday said it rejects the resignation of Ahmed Shafiq as its chairman.

"Shafiq will remain a symbol to the party and we will never let him quit," the group said in a statement.

Shafiq has quit, citing his inability to perform duties from outside Egypt.
