New Suez Canal

The Egyptian community in Oman held a ceremony on Monday on the occasion of inaugurating the New Suez Canal.

A number of foreign diplomats and Omani officials attended the celebration.

The event was held under the sponsorship of the Egyptian embassy in Oman.

Egypt opened Thursday the new 72-kilometer waterway which was built in less than a year at a cost of EGP60 billion. It runs part of the way alongside the existing canal connecting the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

The legendary project was financed by investment certificates sold to Egyptians.
