The British Museum should not be used as a political platform to discuss Egypt and political developments in the biggest Arab state in a partial way, a number of Egyptians in the UK complained to the administration of the museum.

In statements to MENA, Peter Bebawi, one of the Egyptians who signed the complaint, said the group found the speakers at a forum on Egypt taking sides without giving time or place for the other opinion to be expressed.

Speakers at the forum included Ahdaf Sweif, former correspondent of The Guardian Newspaper in Cairo.

Bebawi said: "We do not expect the Museum to be used as a political platform away from its distinguished cultural role."

He added that Director Neil MacGregor regretted the two sides were not represented in the forum, vowing to better represent the Egyptian speakers at similar future events.
