The Egyptian Embassy in London

The Egyptian Embassy in London has successfully restored an ancient Islamic glass lamp that dates back to the era of Sultan Barquq, who was the first Bahri Mamluk to ascend the throne of Egypt in 1382 and was the first Sultan of the Mamluk Burji dynasty.

A statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Sunday said the glass lamp was among the contents of the National Museum of Civilization and was smuggled from Egypt to be sold abroad.

The statement said the owner of the lamp has voluntarily returned it to the Egyptian embassy after he was assured that it was illegally smuggled from Egypt and in view of keenness on protecting the Egyptian Islamic heritage.
