Foreign minister Sameh shoukry

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Saturday affirmed Egypt's full support to efforts made by United Nations Secretary-General's Special Representative for Libya Martin Kobler.

During a meeting in Cairo, Shoukry briefed the new UN envoy on Egypt's efforts over the past year to support stability in Libya.

Shoukry reviewed Egypt's support to the Libyan political process and efforts made to help the former envoy Bernardino Leon to carry out his mission and achieve a political agreement, which aims to form a national unity government.

The ministry's spokesman Ahmed Abu Zaid said that Kobler briefed Shoukry on his contacts with the Libyan parties over the past few days since he took office and his vision to solve the Libyan crisis.

The foreign minister stressed the importance of adopting the Skhirat deal by the Libyan parliament to form a national unity government that should be able to restore stability, provide necessary services to citizens and ensure the security and safety of the Libyan people.

The minister and the UN envoy to Libya agreed to continue cooperation and coordination in the coming stage to achieve the interests and unity of Libya and its people, and maintain regional stability.

The visit came as part of his meetings with different Libyan rivals to prod them to agree on forming a national unity government.

German diplomat Martin Kobler assumed his position as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on November 17.
