Daesh

Egypt’s membership in the UN Security Council is an opportunity to lead the international community in the war against Daesh, David Concar, UK's head of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) International Organizations Department, said.

In a statement, released by the British Embassy in Cairo, Concar praised a regional role played by Egypt and its strategical status in the Arab World and Africa.

Egypt’s membership in the UNSC in this critical time is an opportunity to lead the international community to support Libyans in forming a national unity government, fight Daesh terrorists and restore peace and security in the country, said Concar.

The British diplomat said that his country was looking forward to forming a close partnership with Egypt in the Security Council in order to meet the global challenges at present.

Concar held a meeting with Egypt’s Ambassador Hisham Badr, assistant foreign minister, and a raft of senior officials of the Egyptian foreign ministry to discuss means of cooperation between Egypt and the UK in the Security Council.

The talks tackled a number of issues on the agenda of the Security Council, including terrorism combat, the UN’s efforts to maintain peace and the latest developments in Libya, Palestine and Syria.
