Egypt’s top court

A committee assigned with amending the laws governing the electoral process will convene Monday to resume discussions.
The discussions will take up the proposed amendments to the laws on electoral constituencies of the House of Representatives and candidacy terms in light of recent court rulings.
The Supreme Constitutional Court, Egypt’s top court, had annulled two articles in the elections law this month, delaying the lower house polls which were planned to take place in March and April.
The court had issued a ruling allowing dual citizens to run in the parliamentary polls, which was banned under the terms set out in the constitution. It earlier had ruled that an article governing the division of electoral constituencies was unconstitutional.
Consequently, the committee was formed under Transitional Justice Minister Ibrahim el Henedi to fix the constitutional flaws to allow for holding the parliament election.
