Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has congratulated Sudanese President Omar al Bashir on his election win.

This came during a meeting held between Al Bashir and Ethiopian Foreign Minister Tedros Adhanom in Khartoum.

In statements, Adhanom said that he discussed with the Sudanese president a number of regional issues of common concern and ways of fostering bilateral ties.

The Ethiopian foreign minister described his meeting with Bashir as important, asserting the strength of relations binding Ethiopia and Sudan.

He underlined that his country looks forward to further foster relations with Sudan.
