Former oil minister Sameh Fahmy and five leaders of his ministry will be retried under a decision announced on Saturday by the general prosecutor.

The defendants are accused of harming the interests of the country and wasting public funds by selling and exporting natural gas to Israel at below market rates.

Fugitive businessman Hussein Salem is tried in absentia.
