A senior official with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has said that extremism and instability in the Middle East negatively affect the Palestinian cause.

The Palestinian Authority has joined the Islamic coalition in a bid to fight terrorism and end the Israeli occupation, said head of the international affairs division at the PLO Ghasan al Shokaa in statements to MENA Tuesday.

The Egyptian government plays an important role to end the Israeli occupation, Shokaa said.

He told MENA correspondent that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the continued Israeli occupation are the main reason behind extremism in the world.

Extremist groups use the Palestinian cause as a pretext for their terrorism, Shokaa noted.

He expressed hope that Greece's recognition of a Palestinian state, together with other world countries', would pressure Israel and the world community to find a political solution to end the Israeli occupation.
