Family House to train Muslim, Christian clerics

The "Family House" announced preparations to start training Muslim and Christian clerics in the different governorates.

The training will be restricted to the clerics who participated in the house's "together for Egypt" project that has been carried out in the past three years under the sponsorship of Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb and Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese.

Rapporteur of the house's religious discourse committee and Secretary of Al Azhar's Islamic Research Academy Mohieddin Afifi said the training plan is part of efforts to promote peaceful co-existence and citizenship and spread the value of tolerance.

In order to spread cultural awareness among citizens, the committee will address long-abandoned values, such as mercy, cooperation, responsibility and loyalty through monthly meetings with Muslim and Christian clerics, Afifi said.

The "Family House" is an anti-sectarian project launched by Al Azhar following the terrorist bombing of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Two Saints in Alexandria on New Year’s Eve in 2011. It operates as an independent body under the Grand Imam of Al Azhar and the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
