Islamic state of Iraq

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) on Sunday put at 7,000 the death toll of fighting between the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and other rival armed opposition groups.
Both sides have been battling to control the northern and eastern parts of Syria since the beginning of 2014, according to a SOHR statement.
Unrest has been spreading nationwide in Syria since March 2011. Hostilities in the country has so far killed over 150,000 people and displaced 6.5 million people inside Syria, as well as sending hundreds of thousands others as refugees in neighboring countries.
