Sharjah - Arab Today
Firefighters from three emirates joined forces to battle a massive fire in Sharjah that gutted four warehouses and an auto workshop on Tuesday.
The fire reported from Sharjah Industrial Area Number 13 was brought under control in an hour. Losses of over Dh1 million are estimated.
The blaze was fanned by inflammable products stored at the warehouses like perfumes, clothes and toys.
Fortunately, officials said, no casualties were reported in the fire. Those complaining of suffocation-related problems were treated on site by paramedics.
Civil defence officials from Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai controlled the fire from spreading to 10 other warehouses located in the area.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Sharjah Civil Defence, said investigations revealed that the warehouse owners failed to adhere to fire protection regulations. They have been fined for non-compliance, which, Al Suwaidi said, was the main cause behind the fire.
After the cooling operation, the site was handed over to police forensic experts to determine the exact cause of the fire.
