Cairo Criminal Court

The first trial session of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and 24 others over charges of insulting Egypt’s judiciary started on Saturday before Cairo Criminal Court.

Morsi is accused, alongside 24 other Brotherhood associates, Islamist figures, political activists and journalists, of having shown disrespect to court rulings in comments on social media and in interviews.

Activist Alaa Abdel Fattah, who is already detained on trial for allegedly violating the new Protest Law, is also a defendant in the case.

The case also involves media people and journalists, including Abdel Halim Qandil, former Misr 25 presenter Nour El-Din Abdel Hafez, Ahmed Hassan Al-Sharqawy, former MENA journalist and presenter of Faraeen satellite channel Tawfik Okasha along with others.
