Arab League Secretary-General, Nabeel El-Arabi, today presented a proposal for considering the possibility of the formation of a joint Arab military intervention force to confront terrorism.
The proposal was presented before the extraordinary meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers.
The proposal comes in accordance with the Arab League Charter, joint Arab Defence Treaty of 1950 and related protocols. Which include the establishment of a joint Arab defence system to maintain peace and security in the region. In addition to the establishment of a unified military command in conformity with the requirements of the treaty or any other formula to be agreed upon.
The proposal calls for holding an urgent meeting of Joint Arab Defence Council (Arab foreign ministers and defense ministers) to discuss the possibility of the formation of Arab military intervention force and mechanisms of its work.
The proposal highlights the need to initiate diplomatic tours to the region's countries to drum up support for the establishment of the Joint Arab intervention military force. In addition to launch coordination with the same countries to provide logistic and intelligence support.
