Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Gaafari

Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Gaafari voiced thanks for New Zealand over its decision to open an embassy in Baghdad to support Iraq's unity and sovereignty and support it in its war on terror.
At a joint press conference held with his New Zealander counterpart Murray McCully in the green zone in Baghdad, Gaafari said talks covered the latest political and security developments in Iraq and its efforts to combat the extremist Daesh group as well as bilateral relations, especially in the economic field.
McCully, for his part, said New Zealand will help train the Iraqi forces and provide the appropriate circumstances for such training.
The minister also asserted his country's backing for Iraq in forming a national unity government, saying that the decision to train the Iraqi forces came upon an Iraqi request to the international community.
